If you’re heading to Universal Orlando soon, there are a few things that I promise make the experience go from “that was fun” to “we’re coming back next year.” Here are my top eight things I wouldn’t skip — ever.
1. EXPRESS PASSES
I will say it again. And again. And again.
Express Passes just make things easier and better.
We went the first week of October, and even with passes, the lines could get long at popular rides. But being able to breeze through at least half the wait? Chef’s kiss. My official recommendation: stay at one of Universal’s on-site hotels that includes Express Passes. (Pro tip: there are 3 of them) They can be a little pricier, but honestly? Worth it a thousand times over.
2. STAYING AT A UNIVERSAL HOTEL
The perks are MANY, people.
Early admission into the parks, Express Passes (at select hotels), free transportation (can you say no parking garage), and even free merchandise delivery to your room. Don’t want to carry that amazing new wand you snagged at Ollivanders all day? No problem — it can be delivered right to your room at no extra charge so your hands are free for more fun.
The entire process — from the shuttle at the airport to getting your tickets, passes, and straight into CityWalk — is seamless when you stay on-site. Plus, some hotels are within walking distance to the parks and CityWalk, while others offer a relaxing water taxi ride that feels like part of the experience.
Either way, you won’t regret booking a Universal hotel. It’s one of those decisions that makes the whole trip smoother, easier, and honestly, just more fun.
3. PARK-TO-PARK TICKET
If you’re debating which ticket to buy — let me make it easy: go for the Park-to-Park option.
You can choose between 2-park (Universal Studios Florida + Islands of Adventure) or 3-park tickets, which include Volcano Bay. And now, with the addition of Epic Universe (which officially opened in May 2025), some ticket bundles even include a one-day admission there too — how cool is that?
The biggest perk of Park-to-Park? Freedom. You can hop between parks whenever you want, which makes the day flow so much smoother. Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure are easily walkable from each other, so if the lines are long in one park, you can just wander to the other.
And if walking isn’t your thing — don’t worry. Your Park-to-Park ticket gives you access to the Hogwarts Express, which travels between the two parks. It’s not just transportation — it’s an experience. Whether you’re a die-hard witch or wizard or just a casual Muggle, riding that train is pure magic and absolutely unmissable.

4. THE OLLIVANDERS WAND SHOP EXPERIENCE
True fans will tell you to do it in Diagon Alley — and honestly, they’re right. But I won’t judge if you check it out in Hogsmeade instead. Either way, it’s one of those little Universal moments that feels magical (pun intended).
Even my boyfriend — who only watches Harry Potter with me under mild protest (that muggle) — thought it was a cool experience. The line usually isn’t too long, and the show inside is surprisingly immersive. Watching a wand “choose” its wizard gives you all the nostalgic goosebumps.
So if you see a small line forming, slide in. It’s worth it for fans of any age.
And if you’re not a Potterhead, don’t worry — I promise there’s plenty more beyond the Potterverse. In fact, one of my absolute favorite rides pays homage to another movie legend. Two words: Brendan. Fraser. Am I right?

5. REVENGE OF THE MUMMY
I know the ride is older (not E.T. older), but if they ever tear it down, I will lose sleep — and possibly tears.
I love the movie, and this ride is pure nostalgia for me. It’s more roller coaster than simulator, which is honestly refreshing after all the newer 4-D experiences Universal’s known for. The Mummy hits that perfect sweet spot between old-school coaster fun and cinematic storytelling — without leaving you feeling like your head might explode afterward.
(Or like you’re on an acid trip… cough cough, E.T.)
6. JURASSIC PARK? WORLD? EVERYTHING.
Speaking of cinematic treasures — we have to talk about Jurassic Park.
First of all, that moment when you walk under the archway and hear the John Williams score swell from the hidden speakers all around you? Instant chills. It gives you all the feels.
I know you know that once you enter, you’ll want to head straight for the VelociCoaster — one of the best thrill rides Universal has ever created — and, of course, the classic Jurassic Park River Adventure, arguably the greatest water ride of all time. You’ll scream, you’ll laugh, you’ll probably get soaked… and you’ll love every second.
I don’t even feel like I need to tell you not to miss it. You won’t, right?
But here’s something most guests skip — the Jurassic Park Tribute Store in Universal Studios Florida. It’s a hidden gem for true movie fans. No lines, sweet A/C, and incredible displays showing how the dinosaurs were brought to life for film. It’s part museum, part gift shop, and totally worth a walkthrough — especially if you need a quick break from the Florida heat.

7. UNIVERSAL’S GREAT MOVIE ESCAPE ROOM
Keeping with our Jurassic theme, let’s talk about this hidden gem tucked away in the back of CityWalk — Universal’s Great Movie Escape Room.
It’s an added cost, but so worth it. You can choose between two iconic movies: Jurassic World or Back to the Future.
We went with Jurassic World, and here’s my pro tip: have more than two people. Some of the tasks are tricky without a few extra sets of hands. But oh my gosh — it was thrilling, almost to the point of being scary (in the best way). It genuinely felt like I was inside the movie. The production value is incredible — Universal really went all out to make this a fun, fully immersive experience for after the parks close (or anytime, honestly).
Also, yes… there’s A/C, which makes it even better after a long, hot park day.
Next time, I’m tackling Back to the Future, but honestly, I’d still do Jurassic World again. It’s that good.
8. CITYWALK DINING & SHOPPING GALORE
Speaking of CityWalk: dining and shopping galore! Carve out time for this part of your trip because there’s so much to see, taste, and do.
We kicked off our trip at Bigfire, which was absolutely delicious. (Highly recommend making a reservation if you can!) But if you don’t, no sweat. Grab a drink and wander around CityWalk while you wait. The best part? Open container policy. You can sip, stroll, and soak in the atmosphere.
